About Us

WorldWorks is a non-profit organization whose mission is to mobilize and direct human and material resources towards the eradication of poverty on earth with special focus on the developing countries of Southern Africa.

We recognize that poverty alleviation on a large scale will require, in the short to medium term, a commensurate transfer and application of resources from the developed world to poorer nations and communities. However, such a massive transfer of development capital can achieve sustainable results only when carefully focused and targeted to benefit the victims of poverty and deprivation. as opposed to the filter-down approaches that have characterized resource movements in recent times through The World Bank and other multi-lateral institutions.

We think that programs and practices that empower local communities and individuals to tackle their challenges in a holistic manner have a greater chance of achieving success than those imposed from above by sometimes corrupt and self-serving governments. We must ask ourselves why, after billions of dollars have been poured into poverty alleviation programs over the past few decades in Africa , there is very little to show for this investment. Why are Africans getting poorer while the rest of the world is getting wealthier?

WorldWorks sees itself as a link between concerned partners in resource-rich countries and needy communities and individuals in developing countries. We work with funding agencies to identify and design programs and communities that can best absorb resources aimed at improving the living conditions of the poor. Such programs are not imposed from outside but represent the aggregated desires and views of the affected populations. Our role is to facilitate communication and exchange of ideas and material goods between groups of disadvantaged people and potential partners around the globe.

Our work focuses on seven major sectors: water and sanitation, education and training, HIV/AIDS prevention and control; health and nutrition, disaster alleviation, environmental care and advocacy. Programs are designed to empower communities to be self-sufficient by:

  • Availing educational opportunities to adults and the young
  • Developing potable water resources and sanitary facilities
  • Helping manage and mitigate the impact of AIDS
  • Providing economic opportunity through resource exploitation
  • Intervening in natural and man-made disasters
  • Improving understanding of the aspirations and needs of disadvantaged communities
  • WorldWorks does not discriminate in its provision of services on the basis of race, color, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical appearance, national origin, language, educational background or veteran status.
