Why Community Energy Efficiency

Efficient use of energy has both economic and environmental advantages to the immediate community and the rest of humanity globally. Energy audits and efficient energy systems design contribute significantly towards immediate energy savings by communities.

Through comprehensive audits, communities are made aware of the accurate assessments and valuations of their energy usage in specific places. Audits identify strategies that can be employed to reduce energy consumption, and to better manage energy-usage.

Large corporations and other organizations that can afford to have these types of energy audits undertaken on their facilities, benefit greatly from reduced power consumption. Typically, these organizations are generally located in affluent communities.

On the other hand, hospitals, industries, schools, churches & community buildings located in disadvantaged communities usually do not have the resources to afford the costs of having energy audits done. This leaves these communities with higher energy costs, and inefficient use of energy. Whereas there are weatherization programs that focus on low-income residential communities, currently, there are hardly any programs targeting public and community spaces in low-income or disadvantaged communities.

It is with this in mind that WORLDWORKS' U.S. PROGRAM has made community energy efficiency its main area of focus. The result is that disadvantaged communities will understand the specific steps required to reduce power consumption and how they can positive contribute to energy preservation.
